BRIAN WATERER SHIELD

The Brian Waterer Shield is named in honour of Leeming Spartan and Association legend Brian Waterer.

Brian is the current Patron of the SMCA and has previously served as both Senior and Junior Vice President. He was also President of the Fremantle and Districts Mercantile Cricket Association from 1965 to 1982. Brian is a Life Member of that Association, the SMCA, and the Leeming Spartan Cricket Club. In 2008, he received the Cricket Australia 50-Year Service Award.

Award Criteria (By-Law 74)

To be eligible for the Brian Waterer Shield, clubs must meet the following criteria:

  • Each club must field at least three teams in the relevant competition.

  • At least one of those teams must compete in First or Second Grade.

  • Only points from two-day grades count toward the award.

Scoring Formula
  1. Points earned by each team (based on official ladders) are divided by
the number of matches played by that team.

  2. The adjusted totals from all eligible teams are added together.

  3. The sum is then divided by the total number of teams in the club to determine the club’s overall score.

Weighting System
  • First & Second Grade: 100% weighting

  • Other Two-Day Grades: 80% weighting

Penalties
  • 0.10 points are deducted per week for each player suspended by the P&D Committee.

  • 0.01 points are deducted per dollar for fines imposed by the SMCA.
(Excludes fines related to forfeits, team withdrawals, or non-submission of Captain’s Umpire Reports.)

In the Event of a Tie

If two or more clubs finish on equal points, the club whose top team finishes higher in the First Grade ladder will be awarded the Shield.
